The company was incorporated in 2012 under the Companies & Allied Matters ACT of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Institute has positioned itself as a leading international research and publishing institution that partners with regional and international organizations and government in promoting quality research and publication of journals and books.

In response to special needs of developing countries, IIPRDS adopts a flexible approach to improve technical skills of local researchers, allow for regional determination of research priorities, strengthen national and international institutions concerned with economic policy research, and facilitate closer ties between researchers, institutions and agencies who work within the purview of its research focus as well as policy makers.

To enhance international standard and best practice, institutional Journals are published in collaboration with International Scientific Research Consortium, United Kingdom and international Universities. All publications are catalogued in National Library, Nigeria and the Institute retains the copyrights.

The School of Advanced Research Study (SARS) is the training and capacity building directorate of the Institute. SARS is an affiliate of the University of Illinois, Chicago and University of Liverpool, London. The aim of research funding is to provide financial support for innovative and original research projects of high quality and potential. In most cases the choice of theme and the design of the research lie entirely with the applicant (the Principal Investigator). The grants provide support for the salaries of research staff engaged on the project plus associated costs directly related to the research proposed and the award is paid directly to the institution at which the applicant is employed.
